Blog Entry #6: Logo Parodies that speak the truth

1. Describe the logo using the language of the Elements and Principles of Design.

The logo is shaped like the world with black and green colours in the circle. The colours represent different things and are meant to be put in the spot they are in. The continents are drawn on the circle to make it look more like the earth.

2. Describe the symbols used in the logo. Why did the graphic artist use such imagery? 

The black represents oil. The oil is placed where the oceans are usually placed. The artist is saying that the waters in the ocean are filled with oil because of Bp. The green behind the black is the logo of Bp and it is meant to tell that the oil is caused by Bp. This logo tells a lot of what happened and what this artist thinks about the petroleum company. 

3. What does this logo say of BP's coroporate identity?

This logo is saying that Bp spills their oil and are not able to control it, thus filling the oceans with hazardous oil. It is saying that Bp is behind all of the chaos the spill has started and did not do much but hide behind it. 

Blog Entry #5: Digital Actors

1.   Is this acting or is this animation?


I think this is a half acting and half animation. Without either one, the result would not be good. For example, in Avatar, if the actors did not do their job, the movie would not look as good as it does. The actors still need to perform well because the animation is based on the movement and actions of the actor. The animations also need to be placed perfectly to make the visual aspect of the movie brilliant. 


2.   Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?


I do not think the character should be eligible for the award, but the actor playing the character. The character is nothing with its personality that is being played by the actor behind the character. I think these actors should get the same respect as regular actors. 


3.   Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?


I do not think that human actors will ever become obsolete because human actors have the feeling and personalities that people connect with when they watch movies. Without this, movies would not have much meaning and gracefulness with non - human actors. 

Blog Entry #4: From Spray Can to light: Graffiti Revisited.

This is my favourite example of light graffiti.

I like this example of light graffiti because it is very colourful and the lines everywhere make it look amazing. The direction is oblique which makes the picture filled with action and movement. The colours look like they are in perfect harmony and the lines look like they are all connected in unity. This is my favourite example of light graffiti.

This is my favourite example of street graffiti.

I like this example of street graffiti because it is creative and amusing. It is funny because Spongebob is one of my favourite cartoon shows and someone created a giant Spongebob on the wall. It is also very impressive that people can make such a good picture using spray paint and a canvas, which is the wall. It also gives me a smile because Spongebob is spraying a can of his own which makes him look like he made the other graffiti around him. This is my favourite example of street graffiti.

The light and street graffiti are similar and different is many ways. They both look exceptional and the way they are drawn can be the same. But street graffiti looks very solid because it is drawn on an object, on the other hand, light graffiti looks light because it is made in mid air. Also, light graffiti usually uses on big stroke of light and then the light source will need to be covered for another stroke to begin. In street graffiti, it is easier to make many strokes because there is no camera in front of you taking a shot. Overall, both ways of graffiti are beautiful and creative and are very artistic.  

Blog Entry #3: Mashups and Copyright Law

I watched the mashup from the hit show, Glee. 


1. What is this mashup trying to communicate? Is it technical experiment, social or political commentary, a comedic parody, or an abstract work of media art?


I think the video is trying to tell people to live your life to the fullest without anyone to stop you to get to your dreams. I think this mashup of multiple songs is a piece of media artwork because the creators made this for a popular television show that is watched by many. 


2. Did its creator follow or break copyright laws in its production?


I think the creators followed the copyright laws because the laws would be enforced for them to air these songs being mashed up. If the laws were broken, the creators of the songs might find out because this is a popular show. 


3. Do you think that mashup like this requires copyright permission? Why or why not.


I think mashups like this requires copyright permission if you are going to use it to make money. If you make money using other artists' songs, they should also be credited for making their songs. I do not think you need permission if you are going to make a mashup just for fun, but otherwise, I do think you need copyright permission.

Blog Entry #2: A Look At Music Video

Initial Reaction: My immediate thoughts about this video are that the artist is singing his song in a poor area in a city. The people who appear in the video look like they don't have money to afford many luxuries. His singing relates to the setting because he talks about how people can be happy without a lot of money. This is shown throughout the music video. 


Analysis and interpretation: I think the musician made this video to show how happy people can be without  a lot of luxuries. It shows that you do not need fame and fortune to live your life happily. This video also shows that being faithful helps out in the future to be happy. 


Consideration of cultural context: The musician might have seen many people who are poor in his city. The musician might be used to all his fame and fortune but then he sees people in the city who are not as fortunate as him. 


Expression of aesthetic judgment: The visuals and music match each other because they show the same message. When the musician talks about being poor, the video shows people who are poor. The visuals affect me by showing how happy people are in the city despite being less fortunate. 


Ongoing reflection: The music video influenced my reception of the song a lot. The song itself is great and has a good message, but with the video, it makes the message more powerful. The video of the happy, less-fortunate people is very strong and fills me with joy. 

Blog Entry #1: Art Imitating Media Imitating Life

Networking sites are fun, enjoyable and interesting. Many people go on sites like Facebook and Twitter everyday to socialize with friends, but sometimes people who you do not can access your profile. That is a reason why you need to protect your privacy on networking sites from people you do not know. It is important to protect your information from people you do not because they will be able to access it and might be able to know where you live or what you do. I guess everyone does not what a stranger to contact them and maybe visit their home. Advertisers and telemarketers can get your information and bother you to buy a product. That can happen if you do not protect your information. There are also people who can hack other peoples' profile and can steal ones' identity. One thing you can do is to not put any personal information like your address and age on networking sites. Another thing you can do is setup privacy settings. Many networking sites have privacy settings for you to choose who can see your profile and who cannot. No one wants a stranger to know where you live or how old you are. Just remember to not put personal information and to setup privacy settings. It is better to be safe than sorry.
