Blog Entry #5: Digital Actors

1.   Is this acting or is this animation?

I think this is a half acting and half animation. Without either one, the result would not be good. For example, in Avatar, if the actors did not do their job, the movie would not look as good as it does. The actors still need to perform well because the animation is based on the movement and actions of the actor. The animations also need to be placed perfectly to make the visual aspect of the movie brilliant.

2.   Do you think that animated character should be eligible for acting awards?

I do not think the character should be eligible for the award, but the actor playing the character. The character is nothing with its personality that is being played by the actor behind the character. I think these actors should get the same respect as regular actors.

3.   Do you think that human actors will ever become obsolete? Why or why not?

I do not think that human actors will ever become obsolete because human actors have the feeling and personalities that people connect with when they watch movies. Without this, movies would not have much meaning and gracefulness with non - human actors.

  1. I am certainly going to agree with your answer to number you with number 1, that it is half acting and half animation. I wrote the same answer, and I thought I was the only one thinking that way - way to go! It has to be both because it is somewhat like a process. Without the actor, how would the animated character have 'human' qualities, such as talking or its precise movement.

  2. For question 2, I'm pretty sure they were asking if the actor playing the animated character deserved to be nominated for awards, not the animated character itself. I'm sure that the people who make the decisions of who should be nominated for awards would realize that animated characters aren't eligible for awards. They would only be the 'label' of the actor, stating that that is the role that they played.

  3. Hi Brandon,

I entirely agree with your answer to question number 2. The animation is nothing without the characters who are playing them. The characters bring out the emotions and actions that the animation need.
